So you’re looking to get into the world of kodi but you don’t know what the best kodi device is to use the kodi software. Well look no more as this article will go over a wide spread amount of information and choices that will help you find the best kodi device for your needs.
Let’s get started.
Now a days you can use almost anything to stream movies and tv shows, hell look at netflix, the netflix app is offered on almost all electronic devices, such as smartphones, smart tvs, tablets, laptops and yes even android boxes.
Well the good news is, kodi is to! ( to an extent)
Let’s start with Smart phones, whether you have an android or an ios device, you can install kodi from each one of the app stores. But is kodi on your smartphone Ideal for you? Obviously kodi on a smartphone is good for streaming on the go or maybe when a family member is using the tv you can stream somewhere else and watch what you want.
Take my father for example, he was at my place this weekend and my daughter (two years old) was currently occupying the TV with Dora the explorer. As much as this entertains her this doesn’t entertain the adult crowd and can be quite boring or even for some simply annoying! My father asked me to setup kodi on his smartphone and install the proper addons, as a kodi enthusiast I kindly obliged but to my dismay I found the kodi app was very clunky and hard to use on the smart phone. I got the job done but it took me longer then it should’ve to have him streaming his favorite shows on his phone.
So to sum up streaming kodi on your smart phone it’s great in a pinch but I wouldn’t consider it the best kodi device!
So let’s move onto smart TV’s, Smart TV’s can be used to stream kodi but not all smart TV’s run an android operating system which is needed to install and run kodi.
Smart tv’s can also be costly and unless it’s time for a new tv most people aren’t going out and buying a Smart tv just to stream movies and tv shows on them. Also to add to the expensiveness of a smart tv, most cheaper ones are loaded with roku software, which is great for streaming netflix but roku is not android software and you cannot install kodi on a roku device. If you were to buy a smart tv to run Kodi I would suggest a sony smart TV.
A sony smart tv is one of the main tvs that come packaged with the android tv software, unlike android box that can come with android software that’s meant for a tablet or smart phone. Sony specifically comes with the new android tv fork created by google and is very capable of streaming media and software from kodi.
Okay so now we’re gonna move onto tablets, just like smart phones tablets are really only used in a pinch unless you have a usb to hdmi or if you have a stream to tv app which would also require you to have a smart tv! I wouldn’t count tablets out though, they are great watching tv shows in your bedroom or when others are using the living room tv. You also don’t need a very expensive tablet to run and stream shows on kodi, my mother uses a rca tablet that has 8 GB of space and is over a year old and kodi runs smoothly on it. The only downfall to running kodi on any touch screen device is the app can be clunky at times and touch response can also be frustrating. If you’d like to look into a tablet without spending too much I’d suggest the samsung tab e lite 7
Let’s talk Laptops and desktop, well just computers in general!
They can be a great way to use kodi, easy to use, almost everyone knows how to use a windows pc and most modern desktops and laptops come with hdmi ports so you can plug it in to your TV with ease.
But what about the hardware? Would you need a gaming pc to stream shows on kodi? Definitely not, is it something to consider? Not likely unless you plan on playing video games on it as well. The good news is, laptops are fairly cheap and if you wanted you could build a media streaming desktop for pretty cheap! I don’t really have any suggestions for which desktop or laptop you should buy if you plan on using it for kodi, as almost any modern day desktop or laptop device would suit your kodi needs in each and every way.In my opinion computers are one of the best kodi device to use for streaming kodi.
If you want to look into building your own media powerhouse there is multiple tutorials on the web and a quick google search can get you the information you need. For my recommendation on specs for your media PC I’d suggest at least four gigabytes of ram, a three hundred gigabyte hard-drive and at least a one gigabyte graphics card which supports HDMI.
The last but the best kodi device is hands down, the android box.
There’s no argument that could persuade me otherwise, they’re small and compact and relatively affordable even if you’re on a college budget. Android boxes are great for streaming kodi, basically that’s what they we’re built to do. So how do you choose what android box to buy? There’s so many out there now that it can be fairly confusing. So here is my suggestion as this box isn’t pricey and is great for beginners that don’t want the hassle of programming kodi as this box comes preloaded with every addon you’ll ever need.
